Caversham ATP Men’s Challenger Series

Caversham are very pleased to announce their sponsorship of the biggest tennis tournament ever to be held in the Channel Islands.

The Caversham Association of Tennis Professionals Men’s Challenger Series will be hosted at Les Ormes in St Brelade, Jersey. The event has attracted 32 top players, including Australia’s Chris Guccione, who played at Wimbledon this year and is ranked 100 in the world. With a prize fund of £35,000 up for grabs the competition is bound to be fierce.

In addition there will also be the Caversham $10,000 Ladies International Tournament attracting players from around the world as in previous years.

The Channel Island Lawn Tennis Association, with support from Caversham, have staged several International Tennis Federation events in the past few years but this is the first time that an ATP match has been held in Jersey.

Commenting on the event Robert Surcouf, a director with Caversham, commented ‘This years event is the culmination of many years hard work and planning by the CILTA and Caversham and is allowing Jersey to not only see very high calibre tennis locally but in a number of cases it is giving talented locals the chance to compete at this high level’.

The ATP has also awarded Jersey two of the four UK tournaments for next year to be staged in March and November. Asked to comment on this news Robert Surcouf said ‘we are very excited about next years events since the men’s competitions will each have a prize fund of £50,000 and the ladies a prize of £25,000 each so we will have the pleasure of welcoming many more high seeded players to the island in 2009’.
